During the Omicron outbreak that swept Xi'an in early 2022, most of the city's businesses were forced to halt operations — yet the logistics arteries for daily necessities, medical supplies and quarantine-hotel resupply had to remain open. On 9 January 2022 the North-West Operations Centre of China Express Logistics rapidly assembled an 18-strong emergency-supply fleet to undertake round-the-clock relief haulage assigned by the Xi'an municipal government.
Operating data of the emergency-supply line
- Duration: 31 consecutive days, 24/7 without interruption
- Orders completed: 3,800+ deliveries (hospital resupply, quarantine-hotel resupply, community supplies)
- Coverage: all nine districts of Xi'an plus three suburban quarantine-hotel clusters
- Distance covered: 210,000 km in total
The "Logistics Lifeline Guardian" honour
In March 2022 the Xi'an State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission together with the Municipal Emergency Management Bureau jointly awarded the China Express Logistics North-West Operations Centre the title of "Logistics Lifeline Guardian", with special bonuses paid to the 18 frontline drivers and 6 dispatchers involved. Around the same period China Express Logistics also took on the pro-bono haulage of Zhengzhou flood-relief supplies and of construction materials for the Wuhan Leishenshan Hospital.
